The City of Sherbrooke is nestled among mountains, rivers, lakes and forests in the heart of the Eastern Townships. The Abenakis inhabited this area long before Gilbert Hyatt and his associates built a grist mill and sawmill on the gorge of the Magog River in 1801. The charm of Sherbrooke lies in the fact that one passes in an instant from the rural world into an urban environment: an urban oasis in the middle of the country! Since 2002, the “new Sherbrooke” includes six boroughs, making it the sixth largest city in Quebec. The Townships Trail takes you through historic downtown Sherbrooke, as well as to the borough of Lennoxville.
